Brussels: House prices down in the 1st half of the year
According to the notaires' real estate barometer published on Thursday, property transactions fell by 3.9% in the first half of the year compared with the previous year. The decline concerned both houses and apartments, with a slight fall in prices of 1.7% after adjusting for inflation. The average price of a house in the country reached 325,204 euros, but prices fell in Brussels (-1.5%) and Wallonia (-1.8%).
Apartment prices stabilize
Nationally, the average apartment price rose by 0.8% to 266,941 euros, but fell by 1.7% when inflation is taken into account. Apartment prices varied by region: +1.5% in Brussels, -1.9% in Wallonia and +0.7% in Flanders. The proportion of new apartments fell to 10.3% of sales, compared with 14.8% last year. The average age of buyers remained stable at 39.4 years, with young buyers (aged 30 or under) accounting for 28.3%.
